Abington Heights is sharing again when it comes to the Lackawanna League Division 1 baseball championship.
The Comets have some part of the title for the third straight season.
After winning the championship outright in 2024, Abington Heights finished tied for first with North Pocono last season. Plans for a playoff to break the divisional tie never materialized as the teams moved into district competition.
During the offseason, the Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association, which breaks first-place ties in most sports, including softball, decided to halt that practice in baseball, largely because of the impact on pitching availability during district and state playoffs.
Abington Heights, Scranton Prep and Wallenpaupack all finished 10-4 for a three-way share of the Division 1 title. North Pocono was two games back at 8-6 and Scranton went 7-7.
Wallenpaupack led the race late in the season, but lost to both Abington Heights and Scranton Prep down the stretch.
Scranton Prep used a strong finish to catch the other two teams.
Abington Heights temporarily slipped out of a tie for first when it fell to North Pocono 9-7 in its final divisional game May 12.
Scranton Prep then created the three-way tie at the top with a 5-2 victory over Wallenpaupack May 14.
The end of the league schedule featured some tense games for Abington Heights.
The Comets lost 4-3 to Scranton Prep May 5. They recovered to beat Wallenpaupack 2-0 and Delaware Valley 3-1 before the loss to North Pocono.
Johnny Petrosky threw a five-hitter with five strikeouts for Scranton Prep against Abington Heights.
Evan Gonzalez tripled, singled and scored twice for Abington Heights.
Will Herold and Gonzalez combined to two-hit Wallenpaupack. Gonzalez struck out three in two hitless innings.
Nick Bradley struck out 10 in six innings against Delaware Valley and Gonzalez struck out two of the three batters he faced, finishing off the combined three-hitter for his second straight save.
Abington Heights fought back from a six-run deficit against North Pocono, but fell short.
Reese Zalewski tripled, singled, scored twice and pitched a scoreless inning for the Comets in the loss.
Under the new rule, two of the three divisions wound up tied in Lackawanna League baseball. Lackawanna Trail and Montrose shared the Division 3 title after both went 11-3.
