SCRANTON — Robbie Azzarelli won his fourth straight Blind Draw Mixed Doubles title at Scranton Tennis Club as he paired with Denise Marcos, another former champion, to defeat Dan Zych and Diane Bailey 5-2 in the finals. A total of 28 players participated in the holiday event.

To reach the finals, Azzarelli and Marcos defeated Bill Ziegler and Maggie Ferraro 5-2, while Zych and Bailey upended Doug Klamp and Audrey Phillips 5-2.

In the round robin competition that preceded the playoffs, Klamp and Phillips barely edged out Ziegler and Ferraro, 7-6 in points, to take Group 1. They won their group title by virtue of having taken their head-to-head match. Ziegler and Ferraro also made the playoffs by winning the most games as a second-place team.

In Group 2, three teams tied with six points, with Zych and Bailey qualifying for the playoffs by winning 17 games, just ahead of Lou Cuck and Aggie Izolt with 16 games and David Martin and Donna Ortiz with 13 games.

Azzarelli and Marcos were overpowering in Group 3, winning their three matches with a loss of only one game. John Lucas and Jen Vitali finished in second place with 11 games won.

John Weiss was tournament director and Denise Marcos organized the breakfast.
