The defending District 2 football champions in the smallest two enrollment classifications will meet Friday when Lackawanna Trail travels to Dunmore for a 7 p.m. game.

Lackawanna Trail (2-1) has won two straight with ease after losing in the 2018 state Class A final and this season’s opener.

Dunmore (1-2) is coming off the first win in the head coaching career of Kevin McHale, 28-0 over Carbondale. The Bucks have won the last five District 2 Class 2A titles.

McHale ran the team a year ago, but Jack Henzes, who was on a medical leave, was still technically the head coach. Henzes has since retired with the second-most coaching victories in state history.

Abington Heights (0-3) plays its Lackawanna Football Conference Division 1 opener Friday night at North Pocono. The Trojans are 0-1 in the division and 1-2 overall.

In girls golf, the Lackawanna League qualifier for the District 2 Individual Championships is scheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Scranton Municipal Golf Course.

In boys golf, Lackawanna Trail (6-2) is at Western Wayne (7-2) Thursday afternoon in a meeting of Lackawanna League Division 2 contenders.

In girls soccer, Delaware Valley is at Abington Heights Wednesday in a meeting between two of the four Lackawanna League Division 1 teams that started the week 2-0.

Abington Heights tied Scranton Prep, 2-2, Monday to remain unbeaten in the league.
