Cory Spangenberg had to wait until Aug. 24 to start his sixth Major League Baseball season and first as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Spangenberg is making up for lost time.

The 28-year-old from Clarks Summit went on an eight-game hitting streak for the Milwaukee Brewers. When that streak ended Monday night, Spangenberg still contributed to an 8-3 victory over the Miami Marlins, driving in Christian Yelich with a first-inning groundout for a 2-0 lead.

Spangenberg hit his first homer as a Brewer and the 28th of his Major League career Thursday against the Chicago Cubs then stole his first base for the team the next day.

Milwaukee won the last three games of the four-game series with Chicago. With Monday’s win, the Brewers improved to 75-68 and stayed two games behind the Cubs in the race for the final National League playoff berth.

In 15 games with the Brewers, Spangenberg is batting .249 with two doubles, a triple, four runs scored and four driven in. He has taken over at second base, making eight starts there along with two each at third base and shortstop.
