Brynn Carey and Hannah Puttcamp from Abington Heights finished second and third out of 13 entries in the freshman girls division to lead the way for the Keystone Mountain Bike team in its first competition of the season, a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Racing League event at Granite Hill in Gettysburg.

Keystone has 34 student-athletes, grades 6-12, on the team this year and entered a team record 22 in the season opener.

Landry Crawford, a homeschooled student from Factoryville, was fourth in the 6th grade boys division.

Avery Smith placed fifth in Junior Varsity boys and Eric Simakaski was eighth in JV2 boys. Both are from Abington Heights.

Gabriela Watson from Mid Valley and Ethan Fenner from the Susquehanna Prep school in Forty Fort also placed in the top five in their division for Keystone.

The co-ed team is based out of Lackawanna State Park.

The PICL is part of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association. It has a five-event fall schedule. The race at Gettysburg drew a league-record 516 racers.

This is the fourth season for the PICL.
