First place, or at least a portion of it, in Lackawanna League Division 1 girls soccer is likely to be on the line Wednesday when Valley View visits Abington Heights.

Valley View entered the week in sole possession of first place at 4-0, but had a game scheduled Monday against Scranton Prep, which began the week tied for second with Abington Heights at 3-0-1. Abington Heights and Scranton Prep played to a tie in their earlier meeting.

Earlier Wednesday, Abington Heights and Lackawanna Trail golfers were part of the field in the Lackawanna League qualifier for the District 2 Boys Individual Golf Championships. The tournament at Scranton Municipal Golf Club qualifies up to the top one-third of Lackawanna League golfers for the District 2 tournament that is scheduled for Sept. 30 at Fox Hill Country Club.

In football, Lackawanna Trail (2-2) tries to bounce back from its loss at Dunmore when it goes on the road again for a game at Carbondale (0-4). The Chargers have lost three of their games by shutout.

Abington Heights (0-1 in the division and 0-4 overall) is home Saturday against Lackawanna Football Conference Division 1 leader Scranton (2-0, 2-2).
