CLARKS SUMMIT – At the Jan. 6 borough council reorganization meeting, Judge Julia Munley swore in new council members David Jenkins, Kathleen Simrell and Harry Kelly and tax collector Shirley Skinner. Judge James Gibbons swore in council member Robert Shiels.

The council voted to accept the following nominations and elections: Gerrie Carey as president, Harry Kelly as vice president, Robert Shiels as president pro-tem, incumbent Jim Klein as vacancy board chair, Kevin Hayes as general solicitor, Josh Mitchell and June Burns, incumbents of the Abington Area Joint Recreation Board; John Durdan, incumbent of the planning commission; and John Kazista, who was interested in filling the vacant seat.

Also, Joe Axtell up from alternate seat of the zoning hearing board, Kelly Altier for the alternate seat of the zoning hearing board, Ben Pisanchyn for the seat of Lackawanna TCC, Gerrie Carey and Robert Schiels as Abington COG (Council of Governments), Gerrie Carey and Patrick Williams as Lackawanna County COG, Warren Watkins and Bob Gilbert as Senior Site Council, Warren Watkins as Wales/Sister City, Gerrie Carey and Warren Watkins as ABPA (Abington Business & Professional Association).

Also, Virginia Kehoe as borough manager/secretary, Jenn Basalyga as part-time assistant secretary, Bonnie Flaherty as treasurer, Jenn Baslygas as code enforcement officer, Chris Yarns as police chief, Gary Wilding as sewerage enforcement officer, Joseph O’Brien as labor solicitor, Robert Shiels II as zoning/hearing board solicitor, Mike Cowley as planning commission solicitor, Murphy, Dougherty and Company as borough auditor and Colwell-Naegele as borough engineer.

In other business …

• The council voted to approve Resolution 2020-01, in which the police pension board remains at 5%.

• The council voted to approve Resolution 2020-02, in which the president, vice president, manager and treasurer are potential signers for a loan from the bank account.
