Silvie Simmons featured at Songwriters Roundtable at The Gathering Place

CLARKS SUMMIT — The Gathering Place is hosting renowned journalist, biographer, rock writer, singer-songwriter and ukulele player Sylvie Simmons for a casual evening of conversation and performance at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 15 as part of the organization’s Songwriters Roundtable events.

This promises to be an evening with a wide range of Simmons’ reflections on songwriting with her unique perspective on the work of Neil Young, Leonard Cohen and Serge Gainsbourg. She will also share her own approach to songwriting as well as her experiences from a music admirer to a music maker. Simmons will bring her ukulele to share her writing process for both of her albums. The evening’s program will be facilitated by Tim Ziegler of the Songwriter’s Roundtable.

A native of London now based in the United States, Simmons has been writing about music since the late 1970s and is described as one of the few women among the rock-writing elite. She has also authored a number of books, including biography and cult fiction. She is the author of “Serge Gainsbourg: A Fistful of Gitanes,” “Neil Young, Reflections in Broken Glass” and the New York Times and international best-seller “I’m Your Man: The Life of Leonard Cohen” which has been translated into 20 languages. Simmons was the subject of a BBC documentary “The Rock Chick.”

Simmons has added singer-songwriter to her mantle of acclaim with the release of “Sylvie” her debut album where she sings and plays the ukulele. The British Times newspaper has described her music as “poetic, guileless, reminiscent of a female Leonard Cohen.” Currently working on her second album, she is also working on a book with Debbie Harry of Blondie. Simmons will autograph any of her works brought to the event.

The Gathering Place is offering advance reservation tickets for the evening with Simmons and no tickets will be available at the door. Seating is limited. To reserve a seat email gatheringplacecs@gmail.com and pay at event. The tickets will help defray costs for the event.
