Frank Kacvinsky and Mike Bonavoglia made it through medal play qualifying and four rounds of match play, including a championship match that went into a sudden-death playoff, to emerge as champion of the Country Club of Scranton Men’s Member-Guest July 29 through 31.
Kacvinsky-Bonavoglia defeated the 2021 championship team of Greg Burkavage-Vince Scarpetta III in the championship flight final.
LAWLER JUNIOR TOUR
Players from the Country Club of Scranton and Glen Oak Country Club finished 1-2 in the Boys Division when the rain-shortened Tournament of Champions of the Anthracite Golf Association’s Lawler Junior Tour was contested July 26 at Huntsville Golf Club.
Michael Maslanka won with a 3-over-par, 75 while Glen Oak’s Luke Morgan tied with L.V. Pegula for second, one stroke back in the tournament which was shortened from 36 holes when the first day was wiped out by rain.
The title was the second in three years for the 16-year-old Maslanka.
Cade Kelleher from the Country Club of Scranton was alone in fourth place with a 78.
Robert Bingham and Gavin June from Stone Hedge tied for ninth with 91s.
Elizabeth Franchetti, an Abington Heights golfer from Scott Greens Golf Club, tied for fifth in the girls event with a 102.
Gwendolyn Powell from Elmhurst Country Club won with a 74.
Winners during the Lawler Tour regular season, plus others who accumulated points with top finishes, made up the field for the Tournament of Champions.
