Abington Heights made it all the way to a penalty kick shootout in the championship game before falling short of its third straight District 2 boys soccer title.
Dallas and Abington Heights were tied 1-1 through two overtimes before the Mountaineers outscored the Comets 5-3 in the shootout Oct. 31.
Cole Kutch from Dallas made the only save of the shootout.
Carter Brunn then delivered the winning kick for Dallas, which went 5-for-5, rendering the scheduled final attempt meaningless for Abington Heights, which went 3-for-4.
All the scoring came in the first half.
Chris Miller put Dallas ahead, but Joey Pivorotto tied the game for Abington Heights before halftime.
Abington Heights was the top seed in the eight-team field.
The Comets reached the final with a 2-0 shutout of Honesdale and a 6-1 victory over Valley View.
District 2 Class 2A
Scranton Prep allowed just one goal in three games while claiming the district championship.
As the top seed in the eight-team field, the Cavaliers hosted the Oct. 31 final in which they defeated Dunmore 2-1.
Tony Nguyen and Dante Palazarri scored for Scranton Prep.
Scranton Prep reached the final with consecutive shutouts, 7-0 over Hanover Area and 6-0 over Lakeland.
Abington Heights finished 17-4 overall.
Scranton Prep took a 19-2 record into the Nov. 5 scheduled state tournament opener.

Abington Heights ripped host Scranton Prep 7-0 during the streak and clinched with a 5-0 win over Scranton. The title was the third straight in Lackawanna Division 1 and 19th straight division title overall in program history.
