Lackawanna Trail senior Avery Ronchi opened the season by finishing fifth out of 241 varsity boys runners in the Cliff Robbins Sr. Cross Country Invitational Aug. 30 at Misericordia University’s Letterkenny Field.
Ronchi finished the 3.1-mile course in 16:52.
Northwest’s Michael Fritz was first and defending District 2 Class 2A champion Mason Staude from Crestwood was second.
Lackawanna Trail also got strong performances from some of its younger runners. Sophomores Chase Litwin and Graeden Zapko were 26th and 52nd while freshman Noah Perry was 77th.
Peyton Swartzfager was 10th of 178 in girls and Jacob Griggs was 22nd of 184 in boys to lead the Lackawanna Trail junior high teams.
