Abington Heights gave a quick indication that it is likely to remain a contender in girls volleyball.
The Lady Comets went 3-0 in August, winning all nine sets they played by an average of better than 25-15.
Through those three matches, which included the Lackawanna League opener, Abington Heights had Hilde Temblador leading the team in kills and aces, Bella Carr leading in digs, Brielle Wentz leading in assists and Madison Smith leading in digs.
Abington Heights went 13-2 in the Lackawanna last year to finish in a three-way tie with Western Wayne and Mountain View for second place in the 16-team league behind unbeaten North Pocono. The Lady Comets were 16-3 overall and lost to North Pocono in the District 2 Class 3A semifinals.

Abington Heights won the league opener over visiting Valley View by set scores of 25-7, 25-12, 25-22 Aug. 28.
Wentz had nine assists, seven digs and five service aces in the win. Carr led in both digs (14) and aces (seven). Abigail MacDonald had six kills. Anna Beck had seven digs and two blocks.
Abington Heights 3, Pittston Area 0
Abington Heights swept the Aug. 26 home opener by scores of 25-16, 25-10, 25-12.
Alaina Krempasky had 14 service points with the help of six aces. Temblador had six kills and 11 assists. Smith had 10 digs.
Abington Heights 3, Nanticoke 0
Temblador and Wentz had strong all-around matches when Abington Heights opened the season with a road win Aug. 25.
The Lady Comets won by scores of 25-16, 25-23, 25-13.
Temblador had 17 service points, 10 aces, nine assists, seven digs and five kills.
Wentz had 16 assists, seven kills, 10 points and four aces.
Smith had 13 digs. MacDonald had five kills and three blocks.
Lackawanna Trail recap
Lackawanna Trail got off to a 0-2 start. The Lady Lions were swept by Tunkhannock in a non-league match, then lost their Aug. 28 league opener to Lakeland in four sets.
The Lady Lions were 3-12 in the league and 3-16 overall last season.
