Abington Heights showed off the depth of its cross country program when the Middle School team dominated the Vince Fedor Junior High Championships for Lackawanna League teams Oct. 18 at Dunmore.

The Comets sent waves of runners across the finish line in all four races.

Abington Heights won the Class 3A titles in both boys and girls while Lackawanna Trail won the Class A girls championship.

The championship races included the top seven runners for each school. For programs that have more than seven runners, there were also B races in which the Abington Heights dominance was even more pronounced.

Abington Heights had five of the top eight finishers in the boys championship race, all coming in within 17.3 seconds of each other.

Connor Moore from Riverside won the race with a time of 10:50.3 over the 1.9 miles.

Jack Stopper and Dylan Spatz from Abington Heights were second and third in 11:14.5 and 11:18.8.

Will Frankowski, John Webber and Dominic Luciani were fifth, sixth and eighth out of 130 runners.

Abington Heights ran away with the title 18-63 over Wallenpaupack, which was second among the four Class 3A teams.

Lackawanna Trail was last among seven teams in Class A boys where Riverside took the title.

The Class 3A girls team race was closer with Abington Heights beating Scranton 30-35.

Scranton’s Vella Byrne was first in 11:30.

The Lady Comets won without any of the top 11 runners among the 128 finishers.

Abington Heights had five runners and Lackawanna Trail’s lead runner was in the pack between 12th and 18th.

McKenna Williams led Abington Heights, taking 12th in 12:40.5 and the other five runners all followed in a span of less than 10 seconds.

Elena Mitchell was 13th, Lackawanna Trail’s Peyton Swartzfager 14th and the Abington Heights combination of Fiona Grady, Caroline Peoples and Alexandra Wintermute were 15th through 17th.

Angelina Cours from Lackawanna Trail was 21st.

The Lady Lions beat out Holy Cross 51-59 for the top spot among eight Class A girls teams.

Abington Heights beat North Pocono 17-46 for the best B boys race team score. Noa Thomas led the way for the Comets, who had the first three runners and seven of the first eight out of 40 in the race.

The Lady Comets had a perfect score of 15 with the top five finishers among Class 3A girls runners in the B race. Overall, with 46 B runners entered, Abington Heights had five of the first six finishers, beginning with Olivia Neher in first.
