The Scranton Prep team of Lily Lengyel and Emma Cuck lost just nine games in eight sets over four matches Oct. 31-Nov. 1 while capturing the Class 2A title in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Tennis Doubles Championships at the Hershey Racquet Club.
Lengyel-Cuck rolled through the championship match 6-0, 6-1 over Winchester Thurston’s Veronica Zinski-Marann Buckanovich.
They opened the tournament with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Pittsburgh North Catholic’s Evelyn Marche-Macaria Stall and followed it up by beating Lower Moreland’s Natalie Chania-Abigail Yanovitsky 6-0, 6-3 in the quarterfinals an Moravian Academy’s Laura Li-Vicky Guo 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals.
State Class 3A
Downingtown East’s Mahi Patel-Joya Mentrikoski knocked out the Abington Heights team of Amishi Amit-Sammy Rosenstein 6-0, 6-1 in the first round of the Class 3A tournament.
District 2 Class 3A
The teams of Amit-Rosenstein and Kate Arp-Elsie Phillips each made it through three-set semifinals to set up an all-Abington Heights championship match.
Amit-Rosenstein won the title, 6-1, 6-4.
After dropping just one game in each of the first two rounds, then defeated fifth-seeded Victoria Latek-Addy Ezzo from Wallenpaupack 7-5, 2-6, 7-5.
Arp-Phillips, the third seeds, won two straight-set matches, then defeated seventh-seeded Anna Clementoni-Cam Forgione from North Pocono 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
District 2 Class 2A
Lengyel-Cuck won 48 of 53 games as they stormed through the district tournament where they defeated Montrose’s Anna Evans-Erin Tillotson 6-0, 6-1 in the final.
Evans-Tillotson faced the other Scranton Prep team, Adithi Velaga-Hannah LaCoe, in the semifinals. Evans-Tillotson needed three sets to reach the final, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
