Abington Heights graduate Cory Spangenberg and the rest of Nippon Professional Baseball are close to the end of a one-month pause in the season to accommodate the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Spangenberg is in his second season playing in Japan where action was halted for the July 16-17 All-Star Games and will not resume until Aug. 13.

The Saitama Seibu Lions, Spangenberg’s team, are 33-38-14 for fifth place out of six teams in the Pacific League, 6½ games out of first place.

Spangenberg made just one appearance in the final three games before the break, an unsuccessful pinch hitting at-bat. His last start came in right field and he was 0-for-3.

While playing in 55 games, Spangenberg has compiled a .230 batting average, .344 on-base percentage and .394 slugging percentage. He has six doubles, three triples, five home runs, 27 runs scored and 22 RBi while going 3-for-6 on stolen-base attempts.

Prior to Japan, Spangenberg spent six seasons in the Major Leagues.
