SCRANTON — Women in Philanthropy (WIP), the initiative of the Scranton Area Community Foundation that focuses on empowering and transforming the lives of women and girls in the Lackawanna County region, is now accepting grant applications from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and K-12, vocational, college and university educational institutions that are working on innovative projects that impact women and girls throughout the region.
Areas to be given consideration include a focus on helping women and girls pursue entrepreneurship; initiatives to advance the inclusion of girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) Education; programs to increase and improve access to restorative dental care for uninsured or underinsured women; initiatives that help low to moderate income women build wealth and advance themselves economically; and transportation solutions that help women and their families.
This is a competitive grant process where WIP will award three grants each in the amount of $10,000, providing a total of $30,000 in grants in 2019. Qualified applicants will be expected to present their projects at the Women in Philanthropy meeting on Thursday, April 11 in Scranton. The top three applicants will be selected to each receive a $10,000 grant in 2019.

Women in Philanthropy (WIP) is comprised of a diverse group of women and men committed to transforming the lives of women and girls in Lackawanna County.
Since its inception in 2014, the Women in Philanthropy (WIP) initiative of the Scranton Area Community Foundation has provided STEAM education to over 2,000 students, provided capital in the form of micro-loans to launch 14 local women-owned businesses, facilitated the financial education of over 120 low-to-moderate-income women, provided a $1 for $1 match to low-to-moderate-income women trying to build a savings, convened over 80 presenters on topics related to community health and wellness, and has formed a Dental Council of health leaders who are working on a pilot project to improve access to restorative dental care for women.
