CLARKS SUMMIT — Summit Christian Academy students, along with 18 to 20 adults, including parents and teachers, packed boxes of macaroni and cheese for local food pantries. The mac and cheese was shipped from Meals of Hope in Naples, Florida.

This project was also a learning experience for the children. The students added a scoop of soy protein and vitamin-enriched cheese packets in the mac and cheese, using a funnel inside a baggie. They had to make sure the bag weighed from 12.3 to 12.5 ounces and they packaged 32 baggies in each box. They then sealed them with “use by” stickers.

The boxes will be shipped to the Weinberg Food Bank in Pittston, which will donate them to school districts with sudents in need of additional food.

“We love knowing we are making an impact in our local community,” said Melissa Selenski, school board member of Summit Christian Academy. “The students like knowing that they are helping other kids.”

This donation is the school’s fundraiser.

“I think it’s a really nice thing to do for people who don’t have money to buy this kind of stuff and God knows that we’re doing it and He is proud of it,” said sixth-grade student Paige Rivers.

“I like it because it gives people food,” said sixth-grade student Ryan Hustin.
