SCRANTON — Following an intensive six-week writing workshop, members of The Recovery Bank have produced nine original works that will be presented during the Scranton Fringe Festival.
Premiering on Oct. 5 with only two performances at 2 and 5 p.m., “Real Life Drama” fearlessly depicts raw, intense and even hilarious firsthand experiences of the dramatists’ journeys from addiction through recovery.
“Being able to offer our community this caliber of programming is wonderful,” said Frank Bolock, Esq., project manager of The Recovery Bank. “We are incredibly grateful to have the support of the award-winning directors, writers, actors and actresses who volunteer in our Healing Through the Arts programs.”
Led by director Paige Balitski of Diva Productions, the diverse group of writers range in age from early 20s to 60+. Told from the perspectives of both the addict and his/her loved ones, the stories of “Real Life Drama” are relatable to anyone touched by addiction and those fortunate enough to have experienced recovery.
“The vignettes that came out of The Recovery Bank’s writing workshop are glorious. I am truly inspired by the talented people who came together to create ‘Real Life Drama,” said esteemed Scranton legend Agnes Cummings. “I am honored to take the stage in this very important production.”
In addition to Agnes Cummings, original works will be performed by both Recovery Bank members and well-known community theater favorites, including Regina Yeager Drouse, Chris Eibach and Marnie Azzarelli.
“Agnes Cummings is one of the finest actresses this area has ever seen. We are blessed to have her. Brilliant.” said Paige Balitski, director. “The entire community will be blown away by the light our show shines on addiction.”
Cummings, playing one of two sisters having a conversation about their tumultuous path to freedom through recovery, is a renowned member of Actors Equity Association, New York.
