The Lackawanna Trail field hockey offense went to work on Labor Day.
Nora Evans and Greta Krimmel each had two goals and an assist in an 8-4, Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 victory at Hazleton Area.
Emma Thomas also scored twice.
Tea Burns scored the first goal and added an assist. Ella Dewey also scored.
The Lady Lions opened a 3-0 lead in the first minute of the second quarter.
Hazleton Area scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to close within 6-4, but Thomas scored twice in the last 2:14 to secure the win.
The Lady Lions are 1-0-1, including a 2-2 tie in a season-opening battle of state powers with Wyoming Seminary.
Lackawanna Trail is coming off a trip to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A state final. Wyoming Seminary has won 10 PIAA championships, including four straight from 2018 through 2021.
The Aug. 29 opener at Wyoming Seminary was cut short because of lightning. It was stopped in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter.
Megan Fahey and Nora Evans scored 1:30 apart in the third quarter for a 2-1 lead, but the Blue Knights tied the game on a Kylie Romanchick goal with no time left in the third.
Payton Laytos made four saves for Lackawanna Trail.
Abington Heights
Abington Heights has moved from Division 2 to Division 1 of the WVC after winning its first title in 15 years.
That move has gotten off to a rocky start.
The Comets lost 3-0 to visiting Dallas in the Aug. 24 opener, then fell 5-1 to visiting Hazleton Area Aug. 28 before losing by a 5-0 score at Delaware Valley on Labor Day to drop to 0-3.
