Lackawanna Trail picked the right time for its only girls basketball win of December.

The Lady Lions went 1-6 in the month, but won their only game prior to the New Year in Lackawanna League Division 3 play.

Lackawanna Trail, which had beaten Lakeland in its November non-league opener, snapped a four-game losing streak when it defeated visiting Carbondale 45-42 in the Dec. 19 league opener.

Ayla Seigle and Hannah Phillips scored 10 points each to lead a balanced attack in the victory. London Lisk and Reagan Norman added eight points each while Madison Palmer added seven.

Following the league opener, the Lions dropped three more games. They finished last at the Taylor Lions Tournament at Riverside, falling to North Pocono 55-20 and West Scranton 50-39, and were held to two second-half points in a 38-16 loss at Wilkes-Barre Area.

Seigle accounted for nearly half the team’s points, averaging more than 16 per game, highlighted by a 22-point effort in the Taylor Lions consolation game loss to West Scranton.
