Derek Williams, John Casper and Mika White won gold medals to lead a group of 15 swimmers that contributed points as the Abington Heights boys finished second in the District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional Swimming Championships Feb. 28 and March 1 at Wilkes-Barre Area.
Williams won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.55 seconds, one of two swimming events in which Abington Heights had the maximum four swimmers earn points by finishing in the top 12.
Casper won the 200 freestyle.
White led the way as Abington Heights put together a 1-2-3 finish and had four of the top five among six when the diving portion of the meet was contested Feb. 22 at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center in Wilkes-Barre.
Williams was second in the 100 freestyle and was part of both the second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay and third-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay along with Casper and Adrian Azar.
Casper was second in the 100 butterfly.
Ryan Horutz and Ethan Horutz were second and third in diving while John Vachino was fifth.
Judah Donnelly was the other member of the second-place 400 freestyle relay team while Charles Voytek was the other member of the third-place 200 freestyle relay team.
Donnelly was also sixth in the 200 freestyle and eighth in the 100 freestyle.
Voytek was sixth in the 100 breaststroke and part of the fifth-place medley relay.
The top six finishers in each weight class earned medals.
Orion Grose, Kevin Farrell and Alec Allspaugh were the other members of the medley relay.
Grose was 11th in the 100 freestyle and 12th in the 50 freestyle where the Comets had four swimmers score.
Azar was seventh in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
Preston Baker was eighth in the 100 freestyle and ninth in the 50 freestyle.
Alec Allspaugh and Lucas Allspaugh were ninth and 11th in the 200 individual medley.
Williamsport won with 292 points.
Abington Heights was second out of 10 teams with 239.
