Scranton Prep will open the season with returning starters in about half the positions as it tries to extend its recent run of football success and defend a pair of titles.
The Cavaliers were 12-2 a year ago when they won Lackawanna Football Conference Division 1 and District 2 Class 3A titles.
Will McPartland is back after rushing for more than 1,000 yards and serving as one of the top players in the secondary. After spending most of 2024 as a running back, he projects as the starter at quarterback where he also saw some time.
Guard/inside linebacker Kaleb Pagnotti and lineman Anthony De Los Santos are the other returning two-way starters.
Tight end Sean McCormack, center Owen Dadurka, defensive lineman Elijah Meyers and outside linebacker Mackey Lynett are all returning starters.
Anthony Prince, the fourth-leading rusher a year ago, is among the players potentially moving up into more prominent roles.
Scranton Prep will play in the only LFC game of the opening weekend and again it could be an important one in the big picture of the season. The Cavaliers are at Valley View in the Aug. 22 opener.
A year ago, Scranton Prep went unbeaten in the division and handed Valley View its only divisional loss.
The Cavaliers host Loyola Blakefield from Maryland at Dunmore’s Veterans Memorial Stadium Aug. 29 and play at Canisius (N.Y.) Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. before moving right back into another key LFC Division 1 game.
Delaware Valley, which could be the top threat to Scranton Prep’s divisional title defense, visits Sept. 12.
The Cavaliers host Scranton Sept. 19, visit Wallenpaupack Sept. 26 and play at Abington Heights Oct. 3 in additional conference games.
Scranton Prep plays non-league games at Mid Valley Oct. 10 and home against Jersey Shore Oct. 17 before ending with an LFC Division 1 game at home against North Pocono Oct. 24.
