The beginning of the winter sports season was rough on Keystone College athletic teams.

The Giants went a combined 1-18 in men’s basketball, women’s basketball and wrestling in November.

Men’s Basketball

Keystone opened the season with an 88-80 victory over Vermont State University-Lyndon Nov. 8 when Justin Stern made his debut as head coach in the opening round of the Vermont State University Tip-Off Classic, hosted by Vermont State University-Johnson.

Jden Golding led the way with 25 points, six rebounds and three assists. P.J. Murphy added 19 points, nine assists and six rebounds while Ahmodrion Jones had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Keystone overcame 40 points by Wesley McIntyre.

The Giants then lost to the host school 76-65 in the tournament final.

Golding made the all-tournament team after posting 19 points, nine assists and five rebounds in the final.

Keystone played on the road for the entire month, finishing 1-5, including local losses at Wilkes University and Marywood University.

The Giants are scheduled to open United East Conference play at Cairn University Dec. 3, then play their home opener in another conference game Dec. 6 against Penn State Harrisburg.

Golding is averaging a team-high 19 points per game.

Jones is 19-for-20 (95.0 percent) from the line while leading the team in total rebounds. He is averaging 14.8 points and 5.8 rebounds.

Women’s basketball

Keystone fell to 0-8 when it lost to visiting King’s College 65-41 Nov. 30.

The closest the Giants came was in the opener of the Keystone Tip-Off Tournament, losing to SUNY Poly 60-52.

Aaliyah Barnes hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter for a 15-9 lead and finished with 19 points.

Keystone fell to Clarkson 70-33 in the other tournament game.

Phanierra Barnett was the only player to start every game. She leads the team with 7.9 rebounds per game and also has averaged 5.8 points.

Wrestling

Keystone is 0-5 in duals and began and ended its November schedule with last-place finishes in 12- and nine-team tournaments.

Nero Bono was the top finisher in both tournaments, taking second and fourth places at 197 pounds.
