Mason Whitney from Abington Heights reached the 100-win mark for his wrestling career before the midway point of his junior season.

Whitney reached the milestone Dec. 30 in the Powerade Tournament at Canon-McMillan in the Pittsburgh suburbs, site of his only losses of the season.

The two-time state medalist is 24-2 on the season with 12 technical falls and 107-17 for his career. Whitney went 45-7 last season when he won a District 2 Class 3A title. He was seventh in the state as a freshman and eighth as a sophomore.

Whitney went 6-0 Jan. 3 when Abington Heights went 3-3 at the Parkland Winter Duals to finish seventh in the 12-team field.

The Comets are 1-0 in Division 1 of the Lackawanna League and 9-4 overall. They won five of six in the Blue Raider Duals at Tamaqua.

They opened the season by finishing second of 25 teams, behind only Honesdale, in the Darren Klingerman Invitational at Bloomsburg.

Whitney, who dropped down to 133 by the Powerade event, won the 139-pound title with a 20-3 technical fall of Andrew Kapec from Sullivan County in 3:57 of the championship match at Bloomsburg.

Brady Full and Lucas Drake, two of the three freshmen who already have at least 17 wins, also reached the finals of the Klingerman Invitational at 133 and 160.

Drake is 19-5. Dakota Sandy is 18-6 with 10 pins at 121. Drake is 19-5.

Frank Scialpi was at 215 in Bloomsburg, while Jason Beck (133), Adam Dickson (152) and Coen Holland (172) each placed sixth.

The Comets celebrated Alumni Night Dec. 17 when they shut out Scranton 67-0 in their Division 1 opener.

Sandy, Drake and Scialpi all won by pins in under a minute.

Beck also won by pin. Whitney and Edward Reed had consecutive technical falls.
