This Week in Local History: Ball game, community cleanups, library party in past news

1968 — The Abington Heights Comets defeated the Dunmore Bucks 4-3. The Comets’ top hitters were Bob Hopon, 3 for 3; Don Adams, 2 for 3 and Bob Smith, 1 for 2. Co-captains at the time were Steve Brady, two-year letter winner, pitcher and senior, and John Choyka, also a senior, outfield and three-year letter winner.

1978 — Community clean-ups were top news in the Abingtons, with Waverly, Dalton and South Abington Township events announced on the front page. Youngsters Robert LeRoy and Matt Mumford, Cub Scouts from Pack 152, were featured in a photograph as the bagged trash outside the Waverly Community House.

1988 — The Dalton Community Library hosted a party for its young patrons, featuring the magic of Damien the Magician and the antics of JoJo the Clown. The fun was topped off with face painting and balloon animals. A photo of the smiling youngsters was prominently featured at the top of the Journal’s front page.
