Local students named to fall dean’s list

The College of the Holy Cross announced the following local students were named to the fall 2024 dean’s list:

• Emelia Jones, Dalton, Class of 2028.

• John Lenahan, South Abington Township, Class of 2028.

• Jayde Waibel, Dalton, Class of 2027.

To qualify for the dean’s list, students must pass four or more letter-graded courses with no failing grades during the semester and earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

GEISINGER COLLEGE’S SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

Local students celebrate Match Day

On Friday, March 21, soon-to-be graduates of Geisinger School of Medicine took part in “Match Day,” an event at which all fourth-year medical students around the country simultaneously open envelopes to learn where they’ll spend the next years training in their chosen specialty.

Local students celebrating a successful Match Day were:

• Mckinley Carey, South Abington Township, who matched into General Surgery at Geisinger Wilkes-Barre.

• Sydney Dana, Dalton, who matched into Emergency Medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center-NC.

• Maaz Siddiqui, South Abington Township, who matched into Internal Medicine at Zucker SOM Northern Westchester Medical Center-NY.

KEAN UNIVERSITY

Local resident elected to membership into honor society

Kean University recently elected Caroline Pease, Waverly Township, to membership into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Pease is among 20,000 faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.

Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5% of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10% of the candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

LEBANON VALLEY COLLEGE

Local resident presents at conference in New York City

Lebanon Valley College announced Ashely Darrow, Dalton, as one of the 11 psychology students to present at the Eastern Psychological Association in New York City this spring.

Darrow defines academic success via GPA, effective school-based behaviors/attitudes, and Psychological and developmental correlates of science denial.

MUHLENBERG COLLEGE

Local resident studies abroad

Muhlenberg College announced Maria Wetzel, Factoryville, who is majoring in dance and psychology, is studying abroad in Italy this spring at the Accademia dell’Arte in Arezzo-dance program.

Muhlenberg students have a large number of affiliated programs to explore for study abroad opportunities, taking them all over the globe. In all, more than 90 Muhlenberg students are taking advantage of the college’s wide variety of global study-abroad experiences this spring.
