SCRANTON – Our Lady of Peace School student Stephanie Yatko will instruct a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program for the Boys and Girls Club of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s GALLS (Giving All Little Ladies Smiles) group. Orchestrated by Yatko, the program will include hands-on experiments constructed for multiple age groups.

Yatko participated in the STEM program at West Point Military Academy.

The project is funded by scholarships awarded by Toyota of Scranton and the Scranton Area Foundation. It was created after Nicole Sullivan, of Toyota of Scranton, met Yatko and challenged her to extend her knowledge of STEM to the local community.

The 12-year-old then coordinated with the Boys and Girls Club directors, Toyota of Scranton and the Scranton Area Foundation to get the idea off the ground.
