Fleetville fire hall to host Jam for Jamie benefit June 1
FLEETVILLE — The community will gather together at the Fleetville Fire Hall for the upcoming Jam for Jamie benefit from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 1. The proceeds will help with the medical bills and daily expenses for Jamie Hunt Nowakowski, a Geisinger CMC critical care nurse, who has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.
Friends and family members will prepare many kinds of food for the event. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, fresh-cut fries, potato pancakes, pulled pork barbecue sandwiches, walking tacos, mac and cheese and potato salad. Barbecue chicken will be available for pre-sale only. Desserts will include Manning’s ice cream, pies, cookies, brownies and many other baked goods. Local businesses will bring over 100 raffle baskets featuring gift certificates to local restaurants, flat top grills, Yeti brand coolers, wood workings, photography packages, skin care packages and season passes to Roba Family Farms and Elk Mountain. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.
“We have been blessed to have friends and local businesses contribute toward this deserving family and worthy cause,” said Jamie’s sister, Leslie Green.
A lineup of musicians will also perform for the event, including John Bower, Collin Johnson, Larry Zick, Jack Bordo, Lipstick & Rye, Erich Aten & Megaband, and Nate Hosie.
Jamie grew up a few miles from Fleetville Fire Company, of which her father has been a member for over 45 years. The members of the organization stepped in to coordinate the benefit, which will raise money for Jamie to undergo additional rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and a stem cell or bone marrow transplant. Since her diagnosis in February, Jamie spent a month receiving bone marrow biopsies, transfusions and chemotherapy at Geisinger in Danville.
Jamie is adored as a wife, mother, sister, daughter, caretaker and friend. She has a husband, Dan, and two daughters, Lindley, 4, and Carolena, 1.
“Jamie can make your day better by sharing a laugh, showing compassion or voicing encouragement,” said Leslie. “She is a foodie, loves a good dog cuddle, writes a stellar Maid of Honor speech and sings a mean karaoke song.”
