You can hear a “whoosh” as summer flies to an end. For me, it seems as if the Fourth of July should be coming up, but this weekend we marked the official beginning of fall.

But the arrival of autumn is good news at The Gathering Place. Our new fall selection of classes is ready, and we have a great variety of offerings in September. Stop in to pick up a copy of the brochure or visit our website at Gatheringplacecs.org for all the details.

On Saturday, Sept. 6, we are offering a unique opportunity to purchase art. Come to our Art in the Attic event, where over a dozen artists will make room in their studios by bringing their creations to display and sell. The variety and quality will be wonderful!

It’s harvest time, so cooking classes will naturally pair with nature’s bounty. Lakshmi Mizen will explore plant-based Indian cooking with puffed puri and veggies on Sept. 13. Bailey’s Chef Sisile Maruzzelli will show how to create the perfect quiche on Sept. 25. Speaking of harvest, this will be our first year being part of Dalton’s Farm to Family Festival on Sept.20. Over 22 vendors will be on-hand at Streamside Park to welcome families to a day of celebration. Good work, Dalton Community and Commerce Association!

To help solve one of the most complicated choices for many, counselors from PA Medicare and Decision Insight will be at TGP on Sept. 22 to guide you in choosing the health care plan that best fits your needs.

To round out a beautiful fall day, why not attend one of our noon lectures? Missing Socrates, a relaxed discussion group led by Dr.Hal Baillie, Ph.D., will be every other Wednesday. Clarks Summit’s own Julie Manwarren will lead our first-ever walking tour of Clarks Summit on Sept. 13. Space is limited, so sign up soon.

Maybe this is the year to build your art skills or find a new way to relax and enjoy. Our wood-burning workshop with Sarah Braddell will send you home with your own monogrammed charcuterie board on either Sept. 17 or Oct. 1. In another art class, Kacie Beck will teach you to design and create your own clay earrings and matching necklace in a two-part class on Sept. 23 and Sept. 30.

For a casual way to explore art, drop into our Open Workshops on the 2nd and 4th weeks of each month, with Wednesday’s time at 2 to 4 and Thursdays time at 6 to 8. Connect and create in a fun atmosphere that can bring out the artist in you.

We are lucky to live in an area where autumn is at its finest. Spend the afternoon outside on Sept.27-28 as local artists set up their easels out in nature for the Plein Air Art Festival at Meadowsweet Preserve on Lily Lake Road. Watch the artists as they demonstrate their techniques and capture wonderful fall colors in their creations. All this art will be exhibited and offered for sale at TGP on Nov.1. What a great opportunity to purchase a painting that you watched the artist create at this festival.

Of course, our groups are still meeting on a regular basis. Check our website for information on how to join in. Our book club, writing group, Irish music seisiun, ukulele strummers, weavers, felt club, game night, and Memory Cafe all gather people together to enjoy and explore.

Our latest venture, our ‘Zine, is available in a special outside vending stand. This mini-magazine offers art, poetry and writing from TGP’s volunteers and staff. Pick up a copy and find portraits of friends on the cover.
