Lucia Campenni scored two first-quarter goals Sept. 29 to lead Wyoming Area past Lackawanna Trail 3-1 in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 game between the last two District 2 Class A field hockey champions.

Lyla Ryon scored on an assist from Megan Fahey to pull the Lady Lions within 2-1 in the third quarter.

Wyoming Area is 6-1, trailing only unbeaten Crestwood in the division standings, and 10-2 overall to lead the seeding race for this year’s District 2 Class A tournament.

Lackawanna Trail slipped to 4-2 in the division and 8-4 overall. The Lady Lions are third behind Lake-Lehman, the other team they lost to in league play, in the Class A playoff race.

The Lady Lions, in their first season under new coach Holly Colvin, won their first seven games by a total of 49-2.

That unbeaten start ended with a pair of losses to Maryland teams in Maryland at the Max Field Hockey National Invitational.

Lackawanna Trail has now lost four of its last five games, all to highly regarded opponents, with a 6-2 win over Honesdale in that stretch.

Abington Heights is struggling at 1-5 in WVC Division 1 and 1-9 overall. That overall record is still likely to be good enough to make the District 2-4 Class 2A Subregional playoff field where all but one of the nine teams will qualify. The Lady Comets are sixth in the playoff power ratings race.

The only win of the season came 2-1 over Delaware Valley Sept. 10. Abington Heights has been shut out in the other nine games, including six straight.
